Models of the Hyperreal p. 58-75

"The nuclear system is both the culminating point of available energy and the maximisation of systems controlling all energy" (74).

A progressive system asks others to follow in its footsteps. As a generalization, we can look at modern revolutions as 1. an initial group standing up for something, and then 2. other subsequent groups following suit. This is happening right now with the Black Lives Matter movement. There are protests sweeping the globe, from New Zealand to Amsterdam, all in response to the killing of an unarmed black man in Minnesota. This call-and-response activism speaks to what Baudrillard talks about in this section. He mentions that "Lockdown and control grow as fast as (and undoubtedly even faster than) liberating potentialities" (74).

Movements and counter-movements are always stepping on each-other's toes. At this point, we have no idea where things began, who started them, where the truth lies, and what significance each movement has when it is portrayed to different audiences in different ways i.e. Fox News coverage vs. CNN.

Project Update:

The Roaming Abstract Twitter account is being followed and retweeted by RANDOM accounts and other bots. It makes me so happy. Here are some examples of follows, likes, and retweets:

This Twitter project is turning into something that I didn't expect - it's research into the mind of the algorithm. I am excited that the bot is being engaged with, even by complete strangers. As of now Roaming Abstract has tweeted about 2,000 times.
